Health Education Year in Review

Over the past year, the UCLA KP Center for Health Equity’s health education team attended several community based health events to provide community members with health information and resources. Our Health Educators, Andrea Chirino, Esme Limeta, and Nahyaab Shaikh, led workshops for community members and trainings for Community Health Workers and Promotores throughout LA County. These engaging, activity based workshops and trainings, 54% of which were provided in Spanish, covered a range of health topics including e-cigarette/vaping use, colorectal cancer, general cancer, and alcohol use. The health education team delivered information to 160 individuals overall, and plans to expand its health education reach and topics in 2024. In addition, the health education team attended several community health fairs and presented at 2 conferences. Community event outreach allowed health educators to connect with community members and share additional resources on health topics requested by community members and organizations including, cancer screening and prevention, and vaccines and immunizations among others. The health education team distributed over 700 educational materials at community events. These efforts support our center’s aim of promoting health equity and increasing cancer prevention knowledge in the diverse communities of LA County.

The health education team is eager to continue delivering health education workshops and trainings to our communities. If you are interested iin scheduling a workshop please contact us at easosa@ucla.edu.
